A little bit of Israel in Les Halles. Delicious.

Chez Nous

From one of the notes about the place we are staying. Very pleasing and a little sneeze inducing.

This is the Life

Saturday, June 27, 2015

So far it is all sunshine, stone fruit and pastries. All our lost luggage was delivered today. In a weird way that worked out perfectly because we didn't have to lug the bikes from the airport to our apartment. Happy days!

Friends in High Places

Thursday, June 25, 2015

I put the book from Mary next to the book from Eleanor on one of the high shelves. It makes me very happy to have them sitting there side by side like that. They are next to the Colour Yourself Calm book that I haven't started yet and several depressing books that I insisted on reading to the children. I only discovered just how depressing they are when we we got to the ends of the stories and my throat was tightening and I was trying not to cry and C and JW were in tears snuggled next to me. A cosy picture if viewed from outside by someone looking in but a wretched grief-wracked desolation felt by those of us inside listening to the story. With me cursing myself for choosing a book that meant I had to explain Sudden Infant Death Sydrome to my 7 and 8 old daughters at bedtime. Thank heavens Sweetie was too tired and had taken himself off to bed before we got to that bit. They'll sit safely on that shelf until I have fortified my constitution enough to put myself through that again.
I am going to take the colouring book and the pencils off the shelf tonight and pack them into my suitcase. Mr Duyvken and I are off on a very big adventure tomorrow. Just the two of us heading off for a week on our own before he meets up with his mates for some cycling. I will miss the little duyvkens but opportunities like this don't come along very often so we're grabbing it with both hands. I will let you know if the book really does induce calm.

It's not easy taking a photo of a mirror without ending up in the picture. At least, it was for me.

Blues by JW

Monday, June 22, 2015

Little Blue is JW's current favourite. She peers at the pages, seeking out all the tiny details and finding things around the house and garden that remind her of the pictures and patterns on the pages. We passed a very happy, gold and blue weekend.

Good Morning

After a grey week it is so good to see the sunshine.

She's a big kid now.
No, I don't know why the sugar is in a pill bottle.

Llama Love

Thursday, June 18, 2015

My llama stars quilt top is finished. As you can see, I need some practice laying out prairie points but they were a lot of fun to do. I am pretty happy with how this one one turned out.

Any Excuse for Cake

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Pity I forgot to add the sugar. Sigh.

Meatfest 2015

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

We had a sausage making day at our place on Sunday. It's not a traditionally vegetarian thing to do but the way some people were looking at the enormous pile of freshly minced meat laid our on the table maybe it did have some pro-vegetarian effects.
They made pork sausages and boerewors, ate pulled pork, ribs, pizza and salads for lunch and all went home happy at the end of the day. It was a lot of fun and we are now trying to figure out how to get a red wine stain off the ceiling which is a sure sign of a good party.

State Your Name and Occupation Please

Saturday, June 06, 2015

As spotted by the eagle eyed blackbird in another post and found like this in the hallway tonight.

The Boys' Room

Friday, June 05, 2015

But no photos of the floor because it is, inexplicably, covered in pencil shavings and, explicably, dirt clods from J's soccer boots.

Thursday, June 04, 2015

The Claude books by Alex T Smith are a lot of fun. The name Dr Achinbum had the kids in stitches last night. Even G (who is nearly 15) was giggling along. These are great fun if you are looking for something that the early readers can read out loud to entertain everyone.

Loom Band Ball

Tuesday, June 02, 2015

The house is strewn with Tom Gates inspired monsters. C is particularly enamoured with the cheery little creatures and their psychedelic backgrounds. Thanks Liz Pichon!
