Looking up

I've been taking Mary's advice and looking up.

Taking notes

Friday, September 28, 2012

A couple of sweet messages I have been given lately. Aren't they lovely?

I particularly like the pictures that C drew to accompany her note about our dinner out together on Monday.

Quilt inspiration

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

I am completely in love with this beautiful quilt.
Completely.
In fact, there is a serious risk of online fabric purchasing so that I can make myself an exact copy.
No, that's not wise but what quilter is?
I have just a couple of small projects to finish up and share with you first.
The school holidays have started, I have set the sewing machine up on the dining table and I am looking forward to stitching while I watch the children play.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Heart full.

Happy Roald Dahl Day to you

Roald Dahl Day - September 13th.
With thanks to Aunty S for letting me know about this and thanks to Roald Dahl for the wonderful stories.

Triple Crown

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

After our visit to the library we still had some time to kill before G's braces would be on (installed? erected?) so we hit the barber shop. Barbers seem to be universally delightful and this guy was no exception. He was so lovely with J, gave him a great haircut and was wearing some pretty snappy shoes.
J has 3 crowns so haircuts are always a bit tricky, I cut his hair pretty regularly but every 3rd or 4th time he gets to go to the barber to get it done properly again. He loves sitting in that chair, surrounded by older men and listening to the jovial banter that is always being thrown around. He even joins in now and loves the gentle ribbing that he gets about having so many sisters or (like yesterday) chucking a sickie. It's a little right of passage for my darling J.

A Trip to the Library

Monday, September 10, 2012

 Child sized chairs for sitting.
 Bean bags for lounging.
Shelves of books for devouring.
J was home from school today with a rather nasty cough so, while waiting for G to get her braces (oh my) we hung out at our beautiful little local library. J is very keen to read Diary of a Wimpy Kid but apparently every other kid in the neighbourhood wants to as well because all the copies were out and the reserve list was long. We're going to borrow it from his friend instead. We kept searching the shelves and came home with The One Hundred Year Old Secret by Tracy Barrett. He loves it and is racing through it. I think we'll be back up there tomorrow to borrow something else.
There hasn't been much creating around here lately because I've had lots of days with kids home sick from school, appointments for various things and working meetings for G's yearbook. Man, that thing has been a lot of work. Another week or two (she says hopefully but not confidently) and that should be all wrapped up. Maybe then I'll be able to get out the sewing machine and finish up a couple of things that I can share with you. Until then I will be busy with mothering which is, after all, the thing I love most.

Overdrive

Thursday, September 06, 2012

Last week we celebrated my 38th birthday, Grace's 12th birthday, our 13th wedding anniversary and Father's Day. It is a crazy time of year for us and I always find myself wishing I could slow it down just a little but since it coincides with the end of the soccer season I can't. Every year this week is bookended by soccer gala day and presentation day. Usually there is a little respite but this year I have enrolled J for cricket and that starts on Saturday. Madness.

Do you like the handprint on that cake? That was either JW or Sweetie - both claim innocence and we were too busy eating to send it off for fingerprint analysis.
