We celebrated G's birthday last Monday by picking her up from school with a mylar butterfly balloon and a heap of mini choc chip muffins to share with her friends. She was thrilled and C and JW had fun wth the excitement of it all but J was decidedly blue about the whole thing. He's been waiting for his birthday all year. He has to wait until December 17 so it has been a very long year for him and, as each month passes, I think it's getting harder. I didn't realise how bummed he was about G's birthday balloon until I got home and took these photos off the camera. The look on his face, his stance, his untucked shirt - it all tells the story of a boy who has waited all year and just can't wait anymore. Poor lad, I wonder how he'll cope this weekend when we have a whole bunch of 9 and 10 year old girls over on Saturday afternooon for a party. I think we're going to have to do something extra special for his 6th birthday to mark the occasion and also to celebrate the end of the waiting period!!

A friend of mine has a child with a December birthday. They started a tradition when he was young to celebrate his 1/2 birthday instead. I thought it odd at first, but now I think it was pretty smart. Abbey is January and we always struggle throwing a party with most friends on hols. She finds it a long wait too...
